Sowelo Tiny Houses Australia

About us...

"We have operated our home and business on an off grid solar power system, allowing us and our customers to benefit from the advantages of renewable energy."

With the changing world and property prices in Australia it felt like a natural progression for us to start a Tiny House business, where we could draw on our years of working in the building industry, using best building practices, environmental design and sustainable materials. We have been following the Tiny House movement in America over the past few years and were inspired to offer a unique, contemporary light footprint design of our own here in Australia.

After growing up and finishing school & apprenticeships in the Blue Mountains NSW, we began travelling around Australia & various parts of the world.   Whilst working in South east Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory, at 21 we had saved for the deposit on a beautiful 100 acre bush property  in Upper Brogo, on the NSW Far South Coast. We both shared a great love of nature and building with recycled timbers and environmentally sustainable materials, leading us to starting a Carpentry & Joinery business, over 20 years ago now.

We also began building our own hand built, mortise & tenon, portal frame house, which became a labour of love and a wonderful creative outlet for our designs and ideas. After the birth of our first beautiful daughter & a few years later another, life was wonderfully busy and filled with building, working , establishing gardens and bringing up babies. We were blessed to have found such a wonderful community filled with talented, skilled and creative people.

We have operated our home and business on an off grid solar power system, allowing us and our customers to benefit from the advantages of renewable energy.

With the option for solar off grid power and composting toilet, or mains power connection and conventional toilet, we feel our design is not only stylish and practical, but offers us the opportunity to show that you can have all the luxuries of modern life in a beautiful and affordable package. Deck and verandah options are also available to be added once your tiny house is parked.

There are weight, length and height restrictions on legal Tiny Houses in Australia. We have spent a great deal of time and effort to ensure we stay within the legal requirements and inspection compliance. This allows the buyer the advantage of knowing their tiny House is built professionally and to all the legal classifications. For a tiny House to be legal in Australia it must be built on a compliant tailor and be registerable. This allows for the advantage of not needing to have a Development Application (DA) and the cost saving associated with this.
